What is the famous tea in Mauritius?

Kuanfu Ripe Black Tea is the famous Tea of Mauritius. Here is WHY?

In 2016, Kuanfu Ripe Black Tea was awarded as “the national gift’ by the government which becomes the first choice for giving to VIP visitors of Mauritius. On July 27, 2018, the president of the People’s Republic of China visited Mauritius. The prime minister of Mauritius presented the Kuanfu Ripe Black Tea to the Chinese president. In a thank you letter from the government, it said that the Kuanfu Ripe Black Tea has contributed to maintain the friendship between China and Mauritius. Kuanfu Ripe Black Tea is produced on the volcanic island of Mauritius where the currents of the Indian Ocean brings the warm and humid subtropical marine climate. Combined with the volcanic erupted soil creates the basic quality of Kuanfu Ripe Black Tea!

Kuanfu Ripe Black Tea is a one of a kind of Black Tea grown and produced on the volcanic island of Mauritius located in the Indian Ocean. The tea plant is grown on the very fertile volcanic erupted soil where the sea breeze of the Indian Ocean brings the ideal warm and humid subtropical marine climate creating the unique quality of the Kuanfu Ripe Black Tea.

In the year 1760, the tea plant, known as Camellia Sinensis,
was first introduced to Mauritius by a French priest named Father Galloys. It was the famous botanist Pierre Poivre who later started planting tea on a large scale but mainly as a museum plant. During the 19th Century, under the British Colony, the then Governor of Mauritius, Sir Robert Farquar, encouraged the commercial tea cultivation on the island however when he left Mauritius, the project was quickly abandoned.

Almost half a century later, Sir John Pope Hennessy revived the local interest in tea cultivation and tea plantations were soon established in new areas on the island. It is to be noted that the tea processing technology used to produce the local Mauritian tea has been the British CTC tea making technology, which is simple and basic crushing, tearing and curling action, hence the black tea in the market has low price.

The Kuanfu Ripe Black Tea is a unique type of tea, which achieved a new height in the world due to its characteristics. The Kuanfu Ripe Black Tea soon allowed Mauritius to have a seat in the global tea market, especially in China.

Tea can hardly be called a trend – after all, it’s been grown, picked, traded and sipped for centuries. But for the last few decades – in the West at least – tea has continually played second fiddle to coffee in the realm of hot drink worship, receiving nowhere near the level of esteem and adoration as the beloved bean. So, as it becomes clear that big brand coffee chains are starting to re-focus their attention on the humble tea leaf – with some already opening specialist tea bars – you can be sure they’ve been keeping their ears to the ground. Because tea is back, in a big way, and it’s emerging from the teapot into juices, cocktails and the kitchens of innovative chefs – in ways more audacious than ever before.
